Motivation is the fuel to your success in all areas of life, it needs to be present to be moving forward. Motivation in fitness is absolutely vital because it is much easier to sit on the sofa and watch TV than put yourself through a decent workout.

UNDERSTANDING your goal is CRUCIAL; for example you want to lose weight, sure, so do lots of people but why do you PERSONALLY, what difference would it make to YOUR life, what if you stayed the same weight in ten years, how would you feel? When you ask these thought-provoking questions, an answer will come out of somewhere and this will connect you to strong emotions that will empower you to change.
WHEN?
Motivation is like food and you must consume it on a regular basis. Every time you encounter a defeatist entity whether it be a person, your own thoughts or a bad day you can counteract this with a winner's mentality by motivating yourself towards your goal.
WHERE?
The simple answer is everywhere: Reading a self-development book at home instead of watching TV, listening to a motivational audio on public transport instead of staring into space, thinking positive and proactive thoughts when you encounter problems instead of worrying or panicking, making plans and setting goals when you have spare time instead of unconsciously scrolling through social media on your phone.
HOW?
You start your weight loss journey 40 kilograms overweight, you lose 10kg's, people are mentioning how well you look, you lose another 10kg, suddenly things change; now people are telling you, you're “going too far” or “you're losing too much weight” or “your beginning to look a bit skinny” but your still 20kg's overweight so this perplexes you, you listen to there comments and start to stray from your exercise and nutrition plan, what happened?
This is when a SUPPORT STRUCTURE is so important, NOT everybody wants what's best for you and it can be upsetting when close one's seek to sabotage you; surround yourself with people who support you, your first biggest supporter should be yourself, every time you hear these negative comments you can give yourself some POSITIVE-SELF TALK like “I will lose weight”; “I will be healthy”;“I will keep going”;”I can do this”.
Next are the people you hang out with the most, if these people are constantly giving you negativity and reducing your motivation, than an adjustment may be in order. People who have a positive and motivating impact on you should be your closest friends.
Last is the people you interact with occasionally, there words still can sting so if they are bringing you down it's best to avoid them as much as possible.
Now this doesn't mean that you disown everyone who disagrees with you, but it does mean if certain people are encouraging you to fail at things that are important to you, whether by their words or behaviour, and they continue to do so despite being aware how important your goals are to you than you have to do what's best for you.
